UGH I HAVE SO MANY FEELS ABOUT THIS LINE
#
because it's heartbreaking and mean and bitter and completely unforgivingly accurate
#
because Rory has always been the one companion that has never idolized the Doctor
#
(even Donna with all her yelling has always believed that the Doctor will always save them in the end)
#
But Rory knows the truth
#
which is the hard fact that being a companion is brilliant and wonderful but will also always change you
#
and not always for the better. You take more risks and youwant to impress the Doctor with your cleverness - you want to PROVE you're The Best
#
that the Doctor didn't make a mistake in choosing you as a companion
#
but when it comes down to it
#
yes you're more worldly and always going to put others first and try and save the day
#
but you're also going to be the reason that people die; you're going to be the one who was too late to save them.
#
The Doctor hates himself for a reason and after you're a companion for too long
#
a part of you will start to hate yourself as well for all the moments where you just weren't fast enough
#
or all the times when you just weren't clever enough etc.
#
Being a companion isn't just sunshine and daisies and time travel and running hand-in-hand with the Doctor
#
It's hard and painful and most people don't see that - but Rory always has
