Dean is so tired of Christmas and all the materialism surrounding it. None of these cheerful people understand what life is really like. They sell these versions of family that Dean hasn’t known for years. Mothers and fathers and siblings sitting around the perfect fireplace, opening piles of gifts that are sitting under the perfect tree. Yeah, that’s not something Dean has had the privilege of experiencing for years. Christmas has been monsters and hunting and lonely hotel rooms since the night his mother died because his father hasn’t been around for them since he turned 8. Dean has tried, oh how he’s tried, does the best for Sammy, attempts to give Sammy a good semblance of Christmas, but it just leaves Dean feeling like a failure year after a year.
He’s stares wistfully at the Star Wars lego set he’s sure Sam would like. Just one year, just one, he wants to get Sam something he can enjoy, something that allows him to act like the 9 year old he is. He wishes those angels his mom said watched over him could give him money that would allow Sam a proper Christmas. Dean sighs, trying not to think about how he hasn’t just been standing there for 5 minutes and walks back to the first aid aisle to grab the ibuprofen he’d come to get in the first place.
One year he’ll do Sam proud.

It was kind of like a love thing. Matt was weirdly, like, ‘Oh my God.’ I think it was a real mix of emotions for him.”
