Anonymous: what does being drunk feel like? I still have 5 years to go =/ i feel so young

omg. Well, if you’re only tipsy, it’s just like being relaxed, you know? If you’re drunk, then it’s a bit like you’re trying to walk, but some asshole is shaking the earth and everything is a bit wibbly wobbly and what is balance even. It’s fun and stress-relieving, but can also be extremely dangerous if you don’t stay safe.

Honestly, I would suggest asking your parents to try alcohol. My parents were always very upfront with me and offered at a young age (probably 15 or 16, like you!) to let me try alcohol. Since I always knew I had that option, drinking in high school never really appealed to me, because I knew it was stupid and dangerous. If I ever wanted to drink, I would drink at home with my parents, where I knew I was safe and wouldn’t be subject to unsafe conditions, such as consent issues or driving under the influence.

There’s a reason that most drinking age limits are 17+ and that’s that kids usually aren’t mentally mature enough for the repercussions of alcohol use. Honestly, I think the American system is stupid. First, you learn to drive and then you get alcohol? No, I much prefer Europe’s system. They allow you alcohol at a very young age, so that you can get all the hard partying out of your system early on. Then, you can get your driver’s license when you’re older (and they also make it MUCH harder for you to get a license), so at the end of the day, you’re much less likely to drink and drive, simply because you’ve already passed the period in your life where you drink a lot.

Either way, being drunk is great, but only if you stay safe! Don’t drink and drive, don’t get in the car with someone who has been drinking, don’t accept a drink from anybody that you don’t trust, and DON’T drink from your cup if you haven’t been watching it. Don’t be too eager to drink early on, because honestly, it’s not that big of a deal to potentially ruin your life over. Not being of legal age to drink alcohol doesn’t make you uncool or whatever, bb. It’s just part of growing up. In 5 years, you’ll be drinking and thinking, “wow, this is what I was so eager to try? This tastes like crap, lbr here.”
