Don’t continue if Rose Tyler is your absolute favourite character ever.

So I don’t see the big deal with her. I mean everyone says that her and the Doctor were meant to be together, and I suppose that to some extent they were, but I think that people let their love for Rose blind them in learning to love the other companions too. I’ve watched all of Donna’s episodes and a few of Martha’s and I like both of them better than Rose.

See the thing with me is that Rose never listened to the Doctor, even when it was best for her that she did. If he told her to stay, she ran off almost every time and got herself into some other sort of trouble which then distracted the Doctor from saving the world.

Also, as kick ass as Rose was, because she was pretty awesome, Martha is about 10x smarter, and Donna about 50x more interesting. Rose was pretty, and she knew what to say, but Martha is just so smart, and watching the episodes with her made me happy that the Doctor didn’t have to explain every little thing to her. And Donna is just such a BAMF. She could tell off pretty much any race of alien and still come out better. She was resourceful and had such a big heart.

And to the people complaining how Rose ended up… she got the meta-crisis doctor and her memories didn’t she? And Martha kept her memories too. It was really tragic that Donna wasn’t allowed to remember how amazing she was, and how she was the most important woman in the universe…

Yeah… just a rant. Carry on.

Honestly, I’m actually completely impressed with this post. You have legitimate reasons for not liking Rose as much (even if I don’t agree with them) and I just wanted to commend you for such a thing. Most of the Rose!Hate that ends up in the Rose Tyler tag (though I am hard-pressed to even call this post ‘hate’) is elitist and unfair, naming reasons for hating her because she’s ugly/poor/stupid/etc. Some even say it’s because of the Rose/Doctor shippers (not kidding), which I think is the most unreasonable justification for disliking her (seriously not kidding). Either way, I see a lot of hate on the Rose Tyler tag that just really bothers me.

But this? This is good. This is impressive. I’ve always been completely fine with people not liking Rose Tyler. Just because I absolutely love and adore her doesn’t mean that you have to. I’ve never tried to forcibly convince anyone to like her when responding to hate (unless they specifically asked me to). All that I’ve ever asked is that you don’t put your hate somewhere where I can see it, and if you do insist on hating her, please at least have a legitimate reason that isn’t “she’s poor.” 

Even if you did tag this under the Rose Tyler tag (which is something that would normally bother me - if you are saying anything negative about someone, even if it is respectful, I still urge you against tagging it at all with characters, mostly with the character that it’s about. Hate is something that most people don’t want to see showing up on any tracked tags.), you at least put warnings around it, saying “please do not read if you like Rose Tyler.” This is something I really, really appreciate.

Anyway, I just wanted to thank you. Thank you for conveying your feelings and opinions while still being respectful and thank you for giving me legitimate reasons for disliking a character, whether it be Rose or anybody else. I don’t see a lot of posts like this and it’s just really refreshing.
